It’s been a long while since I wrote diary-like post to fill you guys in on what I’ve been up to. This week though I thought I’d give it another ago, as there’s been so much going on in my life lately! Let me break it down for you:
Preparing for the Shamazing Contest
As many of you (I hope most of you) may have seen, I recently launched the Shamazing Contest, which is being sponsored by Sharon Dowsett, International makeup artist and owner of Dowsettland. I’m super excited about this, as you can imagine, because it gives my readers something to get involved in and provides a platform for them to showcase their talent. Not to mention the winner has some incredible prizes up for grabs!
Of course, there’s been a hell of a lot of preparation in the lead-up though and that’s been keeping me super busy in my spare time. There have been secret meetings, brainstorm sessions and product testings. I’ve had to carry out research, dig-out inspiration, create proposals, design promotional banners and write a whole load of copy for press releases etc.
Sharon’s been great to work with, helping to advise me both professionally and creatively, though in the makeup industry both are basically the same thing. Her support has been invaluable to me and her input absolutely necessary!
We can’t wait to see what Christmas party eye looks our entrants create!
Arranging a surprise gathering for Sam
Alongside preparing for the Shamazing Contest, I was also arranging a surprise gathering for Sam’s birthday. I held it at my parents (because our flat gets crammed with only 4 people in it) and had pulled in favours from pretty much everyone attending. I didn’t do all that much, but managed it as a project. Nevertheless, trying to help everything run smoothly was like a full-time job in itself. Everything worked out in the end and we all had a great night. The ‘Italian Pizza’ theme I was so concerned about was pulled off tremendously by Lydia, Nick turned up right on time (pretending to be our cab) and Sam’s brothers, Chris & Jess, were fashionably late, leaving the birthday boy shocked & surprised right up until the end of the night 🙂
I don’t know if I’ve somehow transformed into someone who looks more approachable or something but recently I feel like I’ve turned into some sort of agony aunt for my friends. Don’t get me wrong – I like it. It gives me a nice feeling inside, knowing that I can help and be a shoulder to cry on. But why now? All of a sudden?
Beats me, but I don’t mind… that much…
Attending Fashion Shows
Last Monday, just two days after Sam’s surprise pizza party, my hairdresser and close friend, Amy Pearce, invited myself and Kathryn to a Fashion Show for Raw Hairdressers. The show is held for apprentices and trainees and is a chance for the girls to showcase what they’ve learned and which skills they’ve acquired. It was cool to be a guest, as it meant I got to see what goes on behind the scenes in hairdressing, as well as giving me insight to what hairdressers have to do to become professional stylists and win competitions in their category.
Working in-house once a week
I think I may have briefly mentioned this in one of my makeup reviews the other day, but I’ve also recently gone and got myself a little part-time job. It’s once a week, working as the chief copywriter for Resknow, a web design agency local to my hometown. It’s been really great to be welcomed so warmly to the team and I’m extremely happy with the stability it will give me whilst I continue to freelance as a writer and push to become a more influential blogger.
Yup, so that’s me. What have you been up to lately?
