Pamper Day | A Spontaneous Salon Experience

I loooove a good pamper day and when your best friend works as a beauty technician, you’re only human to want to take advantage of it! On Sunday, I got a phone call from Kate (my best friend) letting me know that the salon was basically empty – meaning that she could do me awesome deals all day! Obviously, I couldn’t bring myself to refuse…

First up, I had a paraffin wax hand treatment. I’d never even heard of paraffin wax before (which she seemed pretty surprised about) but I was keen to give it a go and reap the rewards.

I must admit, it feels strangely good when it’s being applied. It was a little too hot for my liking, but without the heat I don’t think the benefits are anywhere near as predominant. When I got home, I researched exactly what this magical stuff is used for and I found that it is renowned for having healing and pain-relieving properties. Apparently, doctors use it as a way to relieve arthritis all the time.

When the treatment came to an end, the wax was almost dry. When it was pulled off, my hand felt like a babies bottom. I’ve got loads of hangnails at the moment (I think it’s a stress thing) and they felt nowhere near as sore.

The maddest thing about this treatment though, is that you can take the wax home with you afterwards and use it again!!! All you need to do is heat it up in the microwave!

Afterwards, Kate got to work on my gel nails. Now, the first time I tried out gel nails I had a super bad experience (read about it here: Acrylics VS Gels) so I was skeptical about whether or not they would eventually top acrylics for me. I wanted a nice pop of colour to match my new Colour Chaos Eyeshadow Palette so she picked this gorgeous green/glitter combo out for me.

The results were STUNNING (even if I do say so myself). No bumps, lumps or imperfections. Every section of my nails was neatly covered and the filing had been done to perfection. I couldn’t be happier.

The main thing about gel nails is how long they last. Before I was unlucky and found that they lifted within a week but this time around they’re still looking as pristine as ever even after maniacally cleaning the house last night and dealing with tonnnnnnes of paperwork…

Sitting opposite Kate with her beautifully tinted, shaped and tattooed eyebrows really made me want a little TLC for my own, so she took me to the back room, laid me on the bed and started to shape them using a dark brown tint. When she passed me the mirror, I was impressed with how quickly she managed to get the right shape.

We decided not to leave the dye on for too long as I wasn’t sure how bold I wanted to go and would rather build the colour up in a few different sessions. I was SOOOOO happy with the results – even the tinniest little difference in colour can make the world of difference to your brows and I’m already looking into booking my next appointment!

Every girl deserves a good pamper day, so why not head to the spa and treat yourself 🙂 What treatments do you love? Are there any that you can’t live without? Let me know using the comments section below!
