Rimmel is a brand that has the ability to make my face look flawless, so you can imagine how excited I was to test this product. I’m not really into BB creams and tinted moisturiser as I like full coverage pretty much everyday but to see what the hype was about, I thought I must at least give it a fair go.
This particular BB cream claims to be a 9-in-1 skin perfecting ‘super makeup’. It’s meant to prime, moisturise, minimise pores, conceal, cover, smooth, mattify, brighten and protect your face. It’s a brave thing for Rimmel to do – cram so many benefits into one little bottle, so my hopes were high for this product from the off-set.
Before testing it on my face, I took a couple of swatches. I was quite surprised to see how much of an actual colour it had to it – I was expecting it to be a lot lighter in terms of coverage. To me, this is a good thing but for others who want to use this product in-between heavy makeup days this may off-putting.
When I began smoothing the BB cream into my newly washed face, I was super shocked to see just how similar it looked to putting a foundation on. The coverage was impressive for something that claims to have so many other benefits. At first, I thought I’d found something really special BUT (and this is a big but) when it came to blending it in around my under eye area and on top of my eyelids, my eyes began to sting like hell. Now, I do have sensitive eyes so foundations can very rarely cause some irritation when I’m applying it in that area, but usually if I just close my eyes and let the initial stinging pass for a while it’s absolutely fine.
This was different. This product was really hurting – to the extent that I actually had to remove it all before I could even take a picture of the results for you. I’m really quite sad that for me, this BB cream is a complete write-off. However, it has done enough good to make me want to test some other options out there on the market, so there is at least one positive.
